Alliance bids to settle leader today

THE issue of the UNC Alliance leader returns to the discussion table again today as the parties in the group try to finalise the matter.

Venue for the meeting is Emerald Plaza in St Augustine.

Alliance member Carson Charles said they hoped to finalise the subject today, but he was not sure if it would be settled completely.

“One thing is sure—we will settle it ahead of Sunday’s Alliance launch at Mid Centre Mall,” he said.

Work was in progress yesterday at that venue where construction of the stage for Sunday’s launch was being undertaken.

There had been debate in the UNC—and the other groups—recently on the pros and cons of appointing either UNC deputy Jack Warner or deputy Kamla Persad-Bissessar as the leader.

Last Friday, however, Persad-Bissessar said she had recommended Panday for the post of Alliance Leader. She said she had one leader—Panday.

Panday last week, however, said an Alliance leader was not a priority since the Alliance had five leaders from various parties. He said mobilising for the general election was the uppermost concern.

Warner left T&T yesterday for business. He returns Thursday.
