Expect extreme theatre and a winning performance when soca star Neil “Iwer” George takes the stage at the International Power Soca Monarch Competition next month. He has brushed off continuous taunts from reigning Soca Monarch Machel Montano who is predicting that George will have to settle for second place again this year. George said he was not the least bit worried. “When Machel talking about second place he talking about himself. I am not intimidated by Machel,” the confident artiste said, adding he is used to performing alongside soca greats, such as SuperBlue. “That is kind of standards I am used to. I  perform with mash up artistes.”

It is no secret that George feels he was cheated at last year’s competition. He said that has only strengthened his resolve to win this year’s title. Interviewed after an energetic performance at Angostura’s Kingdom of Rum at Space La Nouba last Saturday, George said: “This year will be better than last year.” George, who surprised patrons at the 2011 Soca Monarch finals when he flew through the air in a makeshift plane, kept his game plan for this year’s competition close to his chest.

However, he did say: “I have plenty more to work with. There is the Diesel Rhythm...plenty more theatre.” George has one song, “No Pain,” and does not intend to release anymore music this season because he wants to give other artistes airplay and also wants the entertainment industry to deal with music piracy. “One song good for me. For a period now there have been no CD sales on the market so I am waiting for them to correct that,” he said.
