Carnival 2012

Defending Point Fortin Band of the Year champions, Eastman Brothers, repeated their 2011 feat copping the title anew in what was described as their best Carnival celebration in the last decade. Again Eastman Brothers led from the front, taking three of the major titles. Their presentation of Seadros won both Band of the Year and Kiddies Carnival.   Their Carnival King, Tarik Eastman, was also triumphant as King of the Bands.

In second place in the adult Parade of the Bands was Point Fortin RC with Sailors Gone Green. They were followed closely by John Paul and Associates’ portrayal of Black Gold. The Queen of the Bands title went to Paula Sookram from the band Sisquo and Associates. In an increase of J’Ouvert bands this year, One Love’s presentation of “The Vineyard Full of Wine,” a colourful display, won them the J’Ouvert Band of the Year. According to chairman of Culture and Celebration at the Point Fortin Borough, Sherwin St Hillaire, the bumper Carnival celebration was due to increased participation by the business community.

He said also residents chose to stay ‘at home’ in Point Fortin and enjoy a clean and safe carnival instead of venturing into other areas. Last year, saw a paltry J’Ouvert celebration where up to 7 am, there was little for the small group of spectators to enjoy.  However, this year more than ten bands participated in the competition which police had to curtail due to the volume of people refusing to end the celebrations.
