YUMA introduces ‘owling’ to win band launch tickets
In the prelude to Carnival 2011, the word on the street was YUMA. The name, undoubtedly an emergent trend in T&T’s Carnival lifestyle and culture, swept through the island’s seasonal excitement like a storm. The name YUMA was on the lips of every socialite, and by the end of Carnival 2011, the YUMA vibe became a precedent for bands of the future to emulate.
It was pure public relations strategy and understanding what was the “in thing” at the time. It created it’s own trend and lured thousands by the simple whisper of a movement it start. Now, ahead of C2K12, the YUMA movement is trending again. Not only is the band utilising all social media ahead of it’s August 13 band launch, but its even come up with a hilarious concept that will certainly capture quite a few.
Get your owl on
Owling—ever heard of it? Well it’s an Internet craze that follows on the heels of the infamous planking game, which calls on participants of the game to lie face down in strange, often dangerous locations, enacting a lifeless body or a plank, as the name suggests.
Owling is quite similar. In fact, it has been referred to as the evolution of planking, but instead of lying down motionless, the trend calls on participants to crouch like an owl in unusual spaces and places. With that in mind, YUMA is calling on it’s following to start owling for a chance at winning two tickets to the band launch this month.
The rules are that entrants must wear YUMA branded gear, whether costumes or otherwise, and the YUMA logo must be visibly displayed on each entrant’s body. After the gear’s in order, entrants must strike their owl pose, have their photograph taken, then uploaded to the YUMA Facebook fan page with the yumavibe tag attached. All photos must be uploaded by 8 pm between August 2 and August 6.
Trending for Carnival
The very eccentric yet catchy competition is dubbed, YUMA’s Whoooo’s Whooo Owling Contest, and with some 11,000 plus fans on the Facebook fan page, the band just might receive quite a number of YUMA psyched entrants submitting photos to win their tickets to the anticipated band launch.
