Eight young women will vie for the privilege of taking the title of Miss Central Trinidad 2012 when the Couva Carnival Committee hosts its queen pageant at the Carnival Centre, Couva Car Park, on Saturday. The contestants were formally introduced to their sponsors at a special event held at the Couva/Pt Lisas Chamber of Commerce last week.

They are Tishia Mills (Miss KS Chinpire Contracting Services), Olivia St Clair (Miss Club DeJa Vous), Angelina Pray (Miss Ramlogan & Son Sports Centre), Giselle Ramsamooj (Miss Rennaisance Sports Lounge & Bar), Felicia Dos Santos (Miss Trinsulate 2 Caribbean), Adrianna Ramjattan (Miss Couva/ Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation), Jilisa Baptiste (Miss Central Community Credit Union) and Shenice Crooks (Miss Lady Gay Restaurant & Bar). The young women have been groomed over the last two weeks by experienced co-ordinator, Marva Lewis, who gave the assurance that the pageant would be a real treat for people  attending the show.

“The contestants are charming and graceful and have been a joy to work with since they were selected for the show. They will thrill everyone,” she added. Ramchand Rajbal Maraj, chairman of the Couva Carnival Committee, said the Miss Central Trinidad Queen Pageant was the biggest pre-Carnival event in Couva. “Thousands come out to see the pageant, which is really a variety show packed with entertainment. “We have several guest artistes booked for the show, so there is a lot to look forward to,” Rajbal Maraj added. Meanwhile, the contestants were taken on a motorcade through the streets of Couva, California and Chaguanas on Saturday and were greeted with tremendous applause by residents and shoppers.
