Andy and Debra top Tobago ballroom dance competition

Andy Laurence and Debra Philbert have won the Open Ballroom Competition of this year’s Tobago Dance Sports. The competition, hosted by the Tobago Dance Ensemble, was held last Sunday at the auditorium of the Scarborough Secondary School. Jacquize Stewart and Nedra Waldron were winners of the Dance Sports Youth Category of Dance.
The ensemble has been in existence for 20 years. They promote, teach and compete in Latin and ballroom dance. A release from the Information Department of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) said the competition featured dancers in five categories—juniors beginners one, beginners one, beginners two, open ballroom, and open Latin.
Dancers competed in dance styles ranging from waltz and foxtrot, in the ballroom category, to rumba and samba, in the Latin category. In addition to competitors from Tobago-based dance schools, dancers from a number of Trinidad-based schools were invited to compete in the open categories.
