Arts and multiculturalism minister Dr Lincoln Douglas greets Hai Lin, a Chinese businessman who supplies T&T fashion costumes.

There was a lot of hype surrounding the launch of Fantasy Carnival 2013 presentation titled Savage, last Saturday, but thrill-seekers weren’t alone in drumming up this excitement. Captains of industry along with society’s opinion leaders turned out for the event held at 02 Park, located in Chaguaramas, which was truly an occasion. An atmosphere of undiluted fun pervaded before and after the 50-minute costumed presentation depicting ancient Mesoamerican civilisations and cultures, as researched and imagined for T&T Carnival by principal designers Richard Dookhdeen and Anthony Hall.

These creative minds were joined by fellow dreamers Sandra Hordatt and Jamilla Jeffrey to complete the collection. Fifteen costumes went on exhibit. They ranged from the traditional backline designs, to the premium frontline, to the section, but for those with a true desire to stand there were individual designs. But how easy was it for the band to settle of a pretty mas portrayal citing that Dookdheen and Hall had ideas for bringing forth works of mas for the next decade? Well, this was made simple by the fact that Dookhdeen and Hall had long desired to give life a presentation with the theme Savage which Fantasy revellers are now eager to depict on the streets of Port-of-Spain during the National Carnival Bands Association Parade of Bands Competition, which takes place in seven months.
