Who has your Back?

Are there people in your life who will look out for you when you are not looking or not able to look? Will those people keep your secrets? Who have you made yourself accountable to or in some cases vulnerable to? Who do you blindly trust? In other words, WHO has your back? I imagine some faces may start coming to mind, or in some cases what may be said is, “No one whatsoever has my back! I trust no one!” Whatever your answers are, YOU need to constantly examine who you intentionally or unintentionally place your ultimate faith in. Is it in you? Our backs, by virtue of its location, is an area exposed that may be an easy target for others. Without periodic checks to see who has our backs, we can be set back and be left trying to recover forever. Yes, there can be eternal consequences if we are not mindful of the possible outcomes of our actions.

We must constantly be aware, that the person or persons who have our backs are not perfect and they at times, may have to look forward to and after their own interests. The people who you think will be there for you no matter what, are just like me, a work in progress. We will knowingly or unknowingly fail others and they will fail us. That shouldn’t be used as an excuse to hurt anyone, but it’s a fact of life. We have to see past each other’s flaws and be quickly willing to forgive when it is necessary. Remember ‘do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’ What is required is patience and wisdom. Not our wisdom, but God’s. The time we take, or don’t take, to examine what is before us, makes all the difference. Some of us spin and drop, at the drop of a hat and immediately expose our backs. There are some things we can’t get back. If only we had waited. In case you are offended, that’s not the inspired intention. Also, don’t feel condemned because thankfully, in spite of its many ups and downs, life is not over. What is always needed is God’s wisdom to deal with the weight felt from not waiting. Don’t ever try to get back at anyone, because you will be exposing your back once again!

The serious consideration we all need to give to the title of this article may now be sinking in. Let it! What stands out for me now, is that the people who have our backs can do almost anything to us that they’d like. It’s still okay and at times necessary to have trusted persons close to us, but our ultimate trust must be in God. He alone knows the intent of the heart. Take a moment now and think about the vulnerability of the little ones. Oh how I wish every parent would responsibly keep a constant watch over the backs of their children, but as we both sadly know, that’s not the case, but rather it sometimes ends up being the subject matter in a court case. Let’s face it; somebody always has our backs, either for good, or for bad. We don’t have eyes behind our heads and that was purposefully done. If we did, some people will only look back and subsequently live in a state of regret. We need to look forward to what is still in store for us. A world of wonderful possibilities awaits us! Let us purpose to trust God with ‘our everything’ and let Him guide us as to who to trust with what. Don’t keep this article a secret because today, somebody may be getting ready to trust somebody with something irreplaceable. Somebody may be getting ready to expose their back and you may be the ideal vessel to ensure a wiser decision is ultimately made. Don’t be indifferent about it! If you are blessed, be a blessing to someone else because somebody always has your back! Do you know ‘WHO’?
