The other side of Midnight

At this point in your life, what are you experiencing? What are the situations that concern you or confront you? Does it seem like you’re in a storm? Are you experiencing sleepless nights because of these situations? If the pain is deep and the answers don’t appear to be imminent, you may be in your ‘midnight hour.’ This is a prolonged period that may appear to be the ‘darkest’ (or toughest) time of your life. Please note however, that the darkest time of the night is not midnight. The darkest time of the night is actually just before the dawn; which dependent on the time of the year, is normally around 6 am. Therefore, after midnight, there are at least five hours of darkness to be experienced. Five hours where one’s vision has to be aided by the moon, the stars or light from an electrical source. It can, for some, be a scary or lonely period. Additionally, the hours until dawn can seem to take forever or when put another way, the horrible situations in your life may just drag on without apparent solutions. Answers are definitely needed and some may look to themselves. Whichever way we choose to look at it, nothing lasts forever, and the answers we may be searching for at this point may be found outside of ourselves. What is required during this period is a deep faith… for me, a deep faith in God. There’s a time and a season for everything under the sun. This includes the times when your faith in anything or anyone may be tested. You may even be faced with temptations of all kinds. For your own sake, don’t give in! There’s too much at stake. We should never try to ‘cover up’ a problem by creating a new one. It is said ‘when the going gets tough, the tough get going’… hopefully in the right direction! Our resolve has to be that with God’s help, we will get through.

Your faith may be at an all time low and you may not be willing to trust God. From my own experiences, I have learnt that God IS the best person to trust. He’s the best companion to call on all of the time as He is never too busy to listen. Midnight hour or not, His unchanging promise is that He’ll never leave us nor forsake us! The situations may have been allowed by Him to build character in us. Let’s face it, if life’s lessons are to be learnt; we must face (or confront) life’s situations head on. It doesn’t mean that we have to fight anyone. (The battle is God’s!) Life is not what happens to us but rather how we choose to respond to what happens to us. In spite of the challenges experienced, determine to optimistically face the future. We must patiently endure by reminding ourselves that ‘this too shall pass.’ Trying to work it out ourselves, or circumvent it, may delay the process necessary for ‘true’ growth and eventual breakthrough. It is my resolve, that ‘the other side of midnight’ is designed to prepare us for what the dawn of what a new day may hold or bring. It always holds the promise of sunshine and new insights; new ways of looking at things. What at first may have appeared to be impossible situations may be part of the experiences designed to give us lasting solutions… solutions which only materialise during ‘the other side of midnight.’ As we go through our situations, we can become ‘better’ people rather than bitter people. We don’t have to carry the hurt forward. The rain will fall and the storms may further develop, but we don’t have to be a victim to either of them. ‘The other side of midnight’ will end for us and begin for someone else. It cannot be avoided by anyone. It’s one of life’s cycles we can learn to pedal.
