2012: To believe or Not to believe?

Though the prediction was made long before, it took the Hollywood blockbuster motion picture ‘2012’ to catapult this revelation into worldwide fame and glamour. December 21st 2012 has been marked as a recent hot topic stirring controversy worldwide; the ultimate result being the end of the world as we know it. World renowned scientists and religious men, have feuded over this entire allegation both within their own circles and between each other. Beginning with the ancient Maya and stretching towards the heavens, this year of undeniable coincidences all cocktailed into a fatal blend of great significance to mankind. The technologically advanced ancient Mayan civilisation has been central to this controversy. Their extraordinary level of evolution over time led to the development of a calendar which combined cosmic and religious calculations, the very calendar that began this entire panic. According to this artifact, there are identified cycles of time (baktuns) of which the present baktun began in 3114 B.C., calculated by scientists to expire December 21st 2012, and hence doomsday was born. Allegedly, this calendar has accurately predicted the previous eclipses and solstices of our past. However, like all juicy prophecies, academic naysayers have discredited the entire theory as ridiculous, with many historians disproving the translation of the calendar including the misinterpretation of the Mayan hieroglyphics. Suggestions have also been made that time will simply continue progressing without any effect on the world. Nevertheless, science has further revealed events calculated to occur in this year of endless tragedies. The stars are aligning for a spectacular, unpredictable show of unknown consequence, the world having front row seats in this drama, our fates pulled by the celestial strings of the galaxy. This infamous day is expected to see a universal occurrence so rare, it only happens once every 25,000 years: the planetary alignment. Our entire Milky Way galaxy is predicted to align along the galactic equator, the imaginary centre line, which is proposed by astrophysicists to immensely alter our magnetic poles yielding apparent destruction and chaos. This alignment of gargantuan proportions is expected to coincide with other galactic episodes.
Planet X, historically known as Nibiru is expected to return into our solar system in this year. The ideology proclaims this planet bears the creators of the human race, the Anunnaki, an extra-terrestrial race so advanced they genetically engineered the modern human. Exit God, enter the Anunnaki. For the unbelievers to this ancient Babylonian mythology, the re-entry of Planet X to our system has been suggested to upset several planetary orbits including that of Earth. It is expected to either collide or pass destructively close to our planet with effects so magnanimous, we’re unable to aptly describe them. Conversely, this theory has been demolished by the scientific heads who have boldly stated no such entity exists within or remotely close to our system. Like previous scandals including the Y2K bug, only time will tell where our fates are destined. The human race for all we know may be standing at our last moments, collateral damage in a game of such scale beyond our imagination. So we’re searching. Searching for the answers to explain the freak storms and earthquakes and natural disasters that have seem to become part of our daily lives. Whether you subscribe to the Global warming theory and Climate change, or you subscribe to Biblical revelations, no one can deny that the year of 2012 is different and significant.
The degree of this significance, including its effects, is left to time; however one thing every person agrees on is that the world is changing. So sit back and enjoy the view, it may be our last, this may be our last Christmas or this just might be joke of the millennium. However it plays out, we have no choice, no say in what happens. The year 2012 is upon us, whether we’re ready or not.
