Finally, we have reached rock bottom in Trinidad
We have finally reached rock bottom in Trinidad, Trinidad Cement Limited, having made significant losses over the past few years, is struggling to keep afloat in hard economic times while keeping the Bankers at bay. So instead of being grateful for keeping their jobs, the OWTU has gone on strike for a 16 per cent wage increase which is way over 25 per cent when compounded with all the consolidations allowances etc.
That is their right, however ridiculous. Yet what amazes me, is that when the workers, illegally block the entrance of TCL, pelt people and vehicles with eggs, puncture tires and scratch paintwork, and the Police step in and take action, two senior Police officers then go to the workers and apologise.
Apologise for what? Doing their jobs? These two officers should be fired immediately. The workers have the right to strike, they DO NOT have the right to intimidate, trespass and vandalise.
