Make schools data available to parents
I note the recent position by Dr Tim Gopeesingh, Minister of Education, to target non-performing teachers and principals. The ministry has access to internal data collected from the various districts that allows it to determine the performance of teachers and hence the schools as a whole.
As a parent, what I would like to see is the (yearly?) publication of such data so that we can see the levels of performance in the schools for ourselves. A report should be available for each school/district outlining such things as teacher/student ratio, total students, attained results, absenteeism, crime etc.
This would allow parents about to send children to primary and secondary schools to make educated decisions and not ones based on perception or tradition.
