Police needed 24/7 on the highways

There is an urgent need for our highways to be policed 24/7 so that lives can be saved, especially in areas earmarked for the installation of barriers. Our Commissioner of Police seems oblivious of traffic crimes being committed and the lives being lost. I note the recent couple from Curepe who was killed due to a medium crossing by a vehicle. I want to agree with Minister Herbert Volney and ask what is the commissioner doing to improve his leadership skills, without which he would continue to be a failure. We do not need foreigners to lead our Police Service. Randolph Burroughs was not a foreigner yet he was our best commissioner.

A national referendum should be held on the future of the commissioner. Minister Sandy and the Police Service Commission must act now. I repeat the call to have responsibilities for minor traffic offences removed from police officers and instead station them on the highways to stop the crazy driving and save the lives of our innocent people. Build those barriers now and bring all traffic crimes to a minimum before any increase in sala-ries for MPs. Madame Prime Minister, note very carefully, because I know you care. Remove all those who are not serving the people.
