Are we moving forward or backward?

I have just looked at the most disgusting video presented by Eco Warriors on Facebook about the “needless” murder of an innocent turtle. How could you gentlemen call yourselves that? Gentlemen. That was a disgrace. The most disgusting part was the fellow saying to cut off the head because it is still “alive” even as the poor thing was being disemboweled. All Trinidadians should watch it and bend your heads in shame.

Where is the Environmental Minister? He who touts a lot but delivers little. How can we have a bright future for our grandchildren when acts like these take place. If you follow the video that seems to be rampant. That is not a one off. That is a way of life.

I must say that coupled with the wanton destruction of the Northern Range near the Asa Wright Center is a great blemish to your office. Where is the Tourism Minister? How do you expect tourists to come to your country to “see” turtles when at every corner they are on their backs for sale to anyone?

Where is your voice to the populace and your colleagues to get some laws moving to protect your industry and Ministry? Not everyone wants to come to Trinidad to “jam and wine.” They want to experience the “island.” Come on everyone. We all have to do our share.

To the buyers. Stop it. You will not be less of a man if you do not eat turtle meat. How can you stomach that plate of turtle when it was still alive and writhing as you cut out its insides? Trinidad is what it is. How would you like for your wife, mother or girlfriend's stomach to be cut open like that while she is pregnant?

Nasty words eh? But that is what you all are doing. Okay this one was not pregnant. Thank God, but you get the idea. To the fishermen and like. Catch something else. You are destroying the essence of your trade. You are killing the food chain. I know what Trinidadians want. They want Marli Street to object to the whole sea turtle trade and then our “follow fashion politicians” will the next Friday pass legislation to stop it.

To the ECO Warriors and other Environmentally Friendly Groups keep up the good work.  Pass that video to anyone you know.
