Playing the slavery card won’t work
ho is going to play brave in this fiscal guava season and tell the Royal Bank of Canada to take they bank and go? The Banking, Industrial and General Workers Union is the one to ask to mind they business and to cease and desist with unfounded remarks about present day slavery. Banks have to make a profit.
Profit making is the business of banks. The mere idea that 1000 RBC workers were off loaded in the last six years tells you a story you either want to hear and comprehend or you don’t. All RBC employees who find that they are being treated like modern day slaves could stay home if they want. Let the union people feed them. If working on Saturday, July 1 is going to save my job, what is my problem? If the Saturday opening is for a good reason of facilitating collections of seniors’ pensions, what is my problem? If spreading the 37 1/2 hour working week over six days instead of five is deemed unreasonable hardship, I could always stay home forever. No problem.
There are always unemployed and well certificated young contract workers waiting for any opening. The unions have to stop crying disrespect when employers do not wish to do all that ego stroking.
Can the BIGWU prevent the RBC from removing its operations out of T&T because of non co-operation and low profit margins? Who wants to test the possibility?
The collective trade union movement in T&T persists in its denial about what they can realistically negotiate in an era of disappearing profits. If a bank like RBC with so many branches and dependent employees decides that T&T is an unprofitable destination, crapauds will be doing a lot of pipe smoking.
Playing the slavery card by the unions is crass behaviour and of little to no effect when compared to loss of income. The unions need to put away the mental and emotional whips and stop disrespecting common intelligence.
