Christian athletes hold on to each other as they race on sleds.

Members of the Point Fortin Open Bible Cathedral overcame their many hurdles in a month filled with allegations and question and joined in fellowship with a day of fun on the March 30 Spiritual Baptist Liberation Day. Known for their indomitable spirit, families and friends gathered at the Techier Village Recreational Grounds for their seventh annual Family Sports and Fun day. The weather was sunny and, under the leadership of Pastor Vickram Hajaree, members came out in their numbers at dawn to participate in an unusual marathon which was done like a relay. Following the race, the Christian athletes gathered at the ground with each team participating in a “Praise Pass,” as opposed to the traditional march past.  The fun day had a different twist as most of the activities were a bit different from regular sporting events. All ages participated in events, including musical chairs, ribbon and straw race, bags in line, log race and others.

Junior Pastor Kevin Smart said the devotees decided to host the event at Techier Village this year as they were making inroads in ministering to residents there. In past years, the church has used the Clifton Hill Grounds for this annual day of fun and lean competition. With the relocation, more than 1,000 people were in attendance. The winner of the Praise Past was Spring Trace Family Worship Centre “God Chasers” which came out beautifully decked in blue. However, the overall winner on the day and winner of the Sister Esla Timothy Challenge Trophy was  “Kinsmen Redeemers” in victorious red. Two days after the Sports & Family Day, the church also hosted its Easter Bonnet Parade through the streets of Techier Village. Smart said through such Christian activities within the area church elders and members believe that greater accolades are yet to come for Techier, and the Borough of Point Fortin as well.
