Creating a positive impact with coaching

When seasons change, Janet Harvey, MCC, International Coach Federation (ICF) president, is reminded of the powerful force of nature. Whether it is summer, spring or fall, wherever in the world, the planet offers a metaphor that inspires and affirms our capacity for change. Harvey shares her experience of attending a one-day conference hosted by ICF Turkey where she engaged more than 200 community and business leaders in a dialogue about “How To Enjoy The Value From Professional Coaching.” In a panel format, leaders from six different organisations described the variety of ways professional coaching has generated a positive impact on morale, results and organisational health. Gratitude, passionate commitment and generosity were the unifying qualities she witnessed from all the presenters.

Harvey reaffirmed the fact that coaching is making a powerful difference across diverse industries and regions of the world and it is important to celebrate and share the learning. She further states that the positive impact of coaching extends well beyond commerce and includes family, community philanthropy and pro-bono coaching for populations that might not otherwise gain access to coaching. For example, UK ICF has dedicated pro-bono coaching and financial resources to an organisation for kids, providing leadership coaching to the youth, who are the future for our world. Another example is ICF Russia who hosted more than 70 pro-bono coaching events that provided coaching services to more than 2,500 people across Russia during International Coaching Week. This is powerful caring. Being able to empower people to maximise potential and take control of their personal destiny and to contribute to society.
