Camping at Paria Bay.

It is the holiday time and one of the most fascinating places for a family camp-out is at Paria Bay. It is an opportunity to enjoy nature at it’s best. Campers can enjoy the luxury of the beach, waterfall and river’s mouth, and at night there is the attraction of the leather back turtles coming ashore to nest in the sand. There is a small stream that can supply water for cooking and drinking. The bay is accessible mainly by hiking and with full backpacks it takes two to three hours to get there. Along the way hikers can relax and enjoy the scenery of Turtle Rock and Cathedral Rock.

This Saturday and Sunday, Island Hikers will hold a family camp-out at the bay. The hike is rated four (moderate). Basic Items to bring along: a tent; sleeping bags; life jackets; insect repellent; flashlight; change of clothing and shoes; cup, plate, spoon or fork; matches; garbage bags; and a knife. Suggested food items: Vienna sausages; sandwiches; sardines; baked potato; trail snacks; fruit juices; peanut butter; biscuits; boiled eggs; baked chicken; coffee or tea bags; two litres of drinking water; and milk.
