A dream come true for Digicel Machel Montano Music Academy winners
“It was a dream come true,” remarked Tyler Auguste and Jean Farrah, performers of Lu City, St Lucia, who appeared live on stage with superstar Machel Montano at Machel Monday 2018, where they performed their hit Let It Go. In sheer delight, the two performers remarked, “We were in awe when we met Machel’s mother who blessed us before going on stage. We felt like we had met a real queen.”they exclaimed.
The budding artistes, appeared along with other Digicel Machel Montano Music Academy winners Abdiel Matamora, a performer from T&T; Shaquielle Wilkinson, a producer from St Lucia; and, Kevon Alleyne, a songwriter from St Vincent and the Grenadines.
The excitement was evident as the youngsters “fed off” of Montano’s energy and the energy of the massive crowd during their maiden performances at Machel Monday.
Commenting on his experience at the stellar event, talented Matamora, who has been a showstopper this year, accompanied The Voice and Machel to perform the Upendo Riddim remix collaboration of his hit Show Me.
Of this experience, Abdiel stated: “I am so proud to have appeared on the greatest show in T&T Carnival — Machel Monday. This has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me.”
The songs from Lu City and Abdiel can be heard exclusively on D’Music App and their performances were streamed live on the PlayGo App.
Soca legend himself Machel Montano was like a proud big brother watching the winners as they performed. “It was an amazing night,” he said. “I’m just happy to have had the opportunity to help these guys fine tune the natural, raw talent that they came into the competition with. Their energy was great, the crowd loved them, I will be honoured to share their stage with them before their own fans.”
The recently-concluded Digicel and Machel Montano Music Academy was a six-week music competition that gave upcoming Caribbean performers, producers and songwriters a chance to be mentored by Montano and other regional and international artistes.
From the entries received, nine semi-finalists were chosen to participate in an exclusive music workshop with Montano at the world famous Geejam Studio in Jamaica. From among them, the four category winners were chosen to perform live with Machel at Machel Monday 2018.
