A 16-year-old student, accused of robbery and kidnapping, has been remanded to the Youth Training Centre (YTC), Arouca, for two weeks. The Form Five student, of Beetham Gardens, was not called upon to plead to the four charges during his appearance before Magistrate Melvin Daniel in the Port-of-Spain Fourth Court. He is accused of robbing a motorist of his $45,000 car on the Beetham Highway. He was also charged with falsely imprisoning his victim during the robbery.

The student was also charged with robbing another victim of more than $3,000 in personal items, including a cellphone, and also falsely imprisoning the victim.  Both incidents were alleged to have occurred on February 26. His parents and relatives were in court during the hearing. He was arrested by officers of the Besson Street CID late last week and was subsequently charged with the offences. The boy is expected to reappear in court on March 19. (DA)
