Media barred from murdered pensioner’s funeral

Members of the media covering the funeral of murdered pensioner Indra Gangabissoon were escorted out of the service yesterday by police at her Freeport home. The officers said the instructions came from family members, who said they did not want any photographs or stories published in the newspapers or any coverage on television.
Representatives of all three daily newspapers and two television stations were ordered out to the sidewalk. Gangabissoon, 76, of Calcutta Road, Freeport, and her husband Sugrim Gangabissoon, 93, were badly beaten during a robbery at their home last Thursday. The robbers wanted their pension funds. A 25-year-old man remained in police custody up to late yesterday.
