Two friends were shot dead in Lopinot yesterday as they sat in a car in a shooting which was described by police as a “gang-related hit.”
Around 11.20 am, residents of Surrey Village, Lopinot, reported to the Arouca Police Station a car had been abandoned in their area. Police went to McDavid Trace where they found a blue Mitsubishi Lancer with the bodies of two men with bullet wounds. They were pronounced on the scene by a District Medical Officer. Police identified them as Aston Douglas, 26, and Hayden Williams, 28, both of Foster Road, Sangre Grande.

Douglas, the owner of the car, was slumped over the steering wheel and Williams was lying in the backseat. They had more than ten gunshot wounds to the head and upper body. Police later said they were involved in criminal activity along the East-West Corridor. Homicide detectives are working on the theory the murders were a reprisal for a recent shooting at Bertie Street, Arouca, when a resident was wounded. The bodies were taken to the Forensic Science Centre, St James, where post-mortems will be done today. The car also was towed to the centre for a ballistic analysis. There were 119 murders up to late yesterday.
