Residents at a party in San Fernando were forced to scamper for their safety yesterday, when gunmen opened fire on a 24 year-old man, leaving him fighting for his life at hospital. Qwesi Sylvester, 24, of Block Five, Apartment Four of the Embacadere Housing Settlement, was shot in the forehead and abdomen following an argument with four men.

According to police, around 3.30 am, Sylvester was at a birthday party for a friend at nearby Circle Drive, when he and the men reportedly got into a bit of “small talk,” which was followed by an argument. Two of the men allegedly whipped out their firearms. Sylvester was shot twice and the four men escaped into a nearby track.

Cpl Hosein and officers from the San Fernando CID responded to residents’ calls and searched the area. However, they reported that witnesses were unwilling to supply ample information to move speedily with investigations.

The victim was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where, up to late yesterday, he was undergoing surgery. Searches were made for the suspects who are believed to be from another area, however police were unsuccessful in their hunt.
Cpl Hosein is investigating.
