PM promises to keep Govt united
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has promised to do everything in her power to keep the Government united and strong. Persad-Bissessar made the promise while speaking to an audience at the opening of the Chaguaramas Boardwalk on Thursday night.
“We will do everything possible to listen to the heartbeat of all citizens so that we can respond to your needs,” said Persad-Bissessar. She referred to Government’s “marathon” Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, saying it was one of the examples of methods used to keep her Government “strong, united and committed.”
“Rest assured that I am committed to creating the conditions for a united people and to laying down the infrastructure for a purposeful nation and happier citizens,” Persad-Bissessar said. “It is the well-being of our people that is of greatest concern to me, and it is the stability and progress of T&T that most consumes my attention.”
She said she wanted to see the country leapfrog into the future, and the Government was working to make the economy thrive. The “marathon session” Persad-Bissessar referred to was the source of speculation this week, as there were rumours that Legal Affairs Minister Prakash Ramadhar, leader of the Congress of the People, would be dismissed.
After her address at the boardwalk opening, Persad-Bissessar along with other government ministers and stakeholders, was given a tour of the boardwalk, which stretches for 1,300 feet along Williams Bay. The opening ceremony included a cocktail reception and a performance by Roy Cape All Stars.
