The Transport Ministry said 42 police vehicles have been repaired and awaiting handover to the Police Service. This is according to a release issued by the ministry in response to yesterday’s exclusive report which quoted Deputy Police Commissioner Jack Ewatski as saying that out of a fleet of about 1,200 vehicles belonging to the Police Service, some 300 were not working. The release from the Transport Ministry said the Vehicle Management Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (VMCOTT) was repairing about 107 vehicles. The release said VMCOTT has the manpower and resources to repair and maintain the police fleet of vehicles on a timely basis to reduce the number of its vehicles which were not operational. The release said since March this year, VMCOTT had repaired or maintained 80 per cent of the 565 vehicles at its three locations at an average of 15 vehicles a day.
