Guard shot at Central nightclub dies at hospital

A 47-year-old security guard, who was shot during an attack at a nightclub in Chase Village on Saturday, has died while receiving treatment at hospital. Barry Gonzales, 47, of Couva, died from gunshot wounds to the chest and stomach yesterday morning while receiving treatment at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope. Up to late yesterday, another security guard, Alain Hall, 26, of Enterprise, Chaguanas, who was injured in the attack, remained warded at hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg.
 
According to investigators around 10 pm, both men were stationed at the front door of the Bhagna Trace, Chaguanas, club, when a man wearing blue coveralls approached them. After a short conversation the man reportedly drew a pistol, shot at the duo before fleeing the scene.  The suspect, who is believed to be living in a nearby community, remained at large up to yesterday afternoon.  The nation’s murder toll for the year has been recorded as 165, compared to 161 for the same period last year. Sgt Mohammed of the Freeport Police Station is continuing investigations.
