Police said they believe there is a car-theft ring in the southern division, in which robbers are targeting mostly vehicles of the Nissan brand. They suspect that the cars are either being stolen to be scrapped for parts or used as getaway vehicles for illegal activities. However, over the past month, there have been numerous reports of vehicles stolen that were of various brands. In the latest incident, two Nissan Sunny B12 cars were stolen sometime between 8 pm on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. Reports are that 23-year-old Adam Bhadia of Penal Rock Road, Penal, parked and secured his vehicle, PBF 7378, at the Gulf City Mall car park in La Romaine around 5 pm and went to conduct his business.

After returning two hours later, he discovered his vehicle, valued at $22,000, missing. Also around 8 am on Wednesday, Andre Alexis, 57, from Hillcrest Gardens, Golconda, told police that he secured his car, PAX 3959, along Lady Hailes Avenue, San Fernando and left. He said he returned at 1.30 pm and found the car, estimated at $25,000, missing. PCs Sullieman and Hosein are continuing investigations. Police are asking anyone with information about any missing vehicles to contact them at 652-2561.
