Taxi driver shot in San Fernando
A San Fernando taxi driver narrowly escaped death at a basketball match, after he was shot on Wednesday night. Akeil King, 25, of the Housing Development Corporation’s Embacadere Apartment Buildings is currently under treatment at the San Fernando General Hospital for a bullet wound to his shoulder.
A team of police officers led by Cpl Emrith responded and after interviewing residents, suspect that he may have been hit from a stray bullet. According to the officers, no one seemed to know which direction the bullet came from. Reports indicated that around 8.55 pm, King was viewing a game at a basketball court located at the front of the community, when he heard two loud explosions.
He told investigators that after hearing the shots, he felt a burning sensation to his left hand and realised that he was bleeding. He was taken to hospital by a resident, where he underwent emergency surgery. Latest reports were that he was resting in a satisfactory condition at Ward Four of the hospital. Police said King was not known to be in any illegal activities.
