Police hunt for rape suspect

Police have obtained a description and the first name of a suspect wanted in connection with the rape and robbery of a British citizen. The suspect, however, remains at large. Up to late yesterday, officers were searching several parts of Arima and St Helena for the suspect. Police said the victim and her friend were liming at a bar in St Helena when they were joined by the friend’s cousin. Sometime later, the cousin offered to drive them home in the woman’s car. After dropping off the friend in St Helena, the man drove to a secluded area on Boykato Road. He placed a knife to the victim’s throat and robbed her of $35,000 worth of jewelry and $80. He then raped the woman, threw her out of the car and sped off. The car was found abandoned at Madras Road, Cunupia. WPC Deonarine of the Cunupia Police Station is continuing investigations.
