An overhaul of the Movement of Social Justice (MSJ) needs to be done to take the working class citizens of T&T forward. Those were the words of president of the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) Ancel Roget as he spoke to media after an inter-faith service for the joint trade union movement. The service, officiated by Cannon Knolly Clarke, was held yesterday at the Trinity Cathedral, Port-of-Spain.
Asked whether there were plans to form a political party to contest election Roget said no. He said, however, the joint trade union movement had been seeking primarily the interest of working people in T&T who had not had the opportunity to chart their own destiny. “We are not contemplating any alliance. What we have is a workers’ agenda, backed by working people. We are talking about a workers’ party,” said Roget.

He added that already had been establish by way of the MSJ. He added: “What we need to do is to occupy fully that vehicle of the Movement of Social Justice as that is the current vehicle to take workers where we want to go. “Renovation and some overhaul of that vehicle will need to be done.” He said the workers party would have nothing to do with a Kamla Persad-Bissessar-led Government. “Our mission is to ensure this Kamla Persad-Bissessar-led Government does not return to power ever again,” said Roget.
