Kamla Persad-Bissessar
Basdeo Panday is the only leader of the United National Congress (UNC), says Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
She was responding yesterday to reports that the UNC was planning to announce its new leader during the party’s Victory Rally at Mid-Centre Mall in Chaguanas on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters outside of the Unit Trust headquarters on Independence Square in Port-of-Spain, Persad-Bissessar said:
“We have been mobilising apace. In fact, all of yesterday (Sunday) I walked in my own constituency and the response has been tremendous.
“We expect a massive turnout on October 7, fully-aligned and fully supporting the UNC Alliance.”
The Siparia MP told reporters the UNC was the “backbone, base and bedrock” of the UNC Alliance.
“And, therefore, when it comes to the issue of leadership... we have one leader, and that is Basdeo Panday.
“That is our recommendation in terms of leadership.” (CC)
