EYM takes East Zonal Sunday League title

El Socorro Youth Movement (EYM) has been crowned champions of the Sunday League 35-over competition of the East Zonal Council of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB). EYM beat Arima-based Agents by 20 runs in the final at the Buggy Haynes Grounds, Tacarigua, on Wednesday. The San Juan team owed their victory to good all-round performances by their batsmen and bowlers. Put in to bat, EYM posted a challenging 177 for 9, with good contributions from Junior Mearns, 43, Robert Brown and Andrew Light, 39 each. Anthony Singh (2 for 29) and Garnett Richards (2 for 34) were the best bowlers for Agents.

In their reply, Agents’ batsmen faced disciplined bowling from EYM and could only reach 157 for 9, with only Daniel Ragbir, 28, Garnett Richards, 27 not out, and Stefan Gopie, 26, putting up any resistance. Chris Patandin (2 for 26), Sunil Boochan (2 for 33), Robert Brown (2 for 36) and Vernie Ramkissoon (1 for 20) took the bulk of the wickets for EYM. Man-of-the-match  was Mearns, who also took the award for Best Batsman. Ramkissoon, who bowled economically with figures of 7-0-20-1, was selected as Best Bowler. Cyril Duncan, of Squadron, was the match referee.
