'Magic City' will be Windsor tonight!
Although surprisingly beaten by Miss Work Of Art, when long odds-on at Ascot last month, twice-raced Magic City is arguably the best juvenile we've seen to date and well worth backing in the Conditions Stakes over five furlongs. Richard Hannon’s charge is opposed by six winners but clear ‘best-in’ on the time-handicap and this should be compelling, not to mention informative, with Royal Ascot not so far away. Seb Sanders is beginning to increase his tally and the former champion jockey will be fancying his chances aboard Inklet in the Maiden Fillies’ Stakes over an extended mile of the picturesque Thames-side circuit.
Inklet made a promising debut thirty days back and should improve; that would make her nigh on a 'cert' and so, once again, bet accordingly. Leicester runs a meeting in tandem and Red Marling is a speculative selection for the opening 3-y-o handicap over seven furlongs; Barry Hills has booked stable apprentice Matthew Lawson who has been impressive these past few weeks and rode the Danehill Dancer colt when the combination was a close third to Elusivity on Kempton polytrack nineteen days ago.
Lawson could prove a valuable asset to Hills’ yard, he’ll have plenty of chances because the guv’nor has been sufficiently impressed with his attitude and work ethic. With three places on offer Red Marling justifies an each-way punt and another half-decent wager should be Redvers in the Maiden Stakes over six furlongs.
Redvers is trained by Ralph Beckett whose yard is now beginning to fire.
