49 schools set for netball opening today
The T&T Netball Association (T&TNA) launches the opening ceremony of the 2011 Secondary Schools League this morning at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sporting Arena in Tacarigua at 10 am. So far 49 out of the 60 registered schools are expected to take part in the march past that will commence the day’s events at 10 am. Defending champions, East Mucurapo Secondary, will do their utmost to retain their title against the other participating schools from six out of the regular eight educational districts in Trinidad. They include: Port-of-Spain and environs, South Eastern, St George East, St Patrick and Victoria.
Tobago has one representative school for today’s march past as their opening will take place two weeks later on September 27. The event is expected to culminate with a game where the students will be matched against their teachers. Past national netballers, Marjorie John Janet Bailey and Corporal Carlette Nurse, constitute the march past judging panel. People from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Sport and the Sport Company of T&T are some of the government representatives expected to attend.
