Dottin breaks into top 10

DHAKA—Deandra Dottin, the exciting West Indies player, has broken into the top ten of the Reliance ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings for batters for the first time following a career-best 95 against Pakistan in the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2011 (WWCQ) at Mirpur on Saturday. Dottin, a 20-year-old Barbadian, is now occupying seventh place in the table, which is topped by India’s Mithali Raj, but Dottin’s team-mate Stafanie Taylor is fast closing in on Mithali’s position.

Dottin is a cousin of Ottis Gibson, the West Indies men’s team head coach. The ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2011 and the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier Player of the Tournament, Taylor, also aged 20, is now just nine points away from displacing Mithali at the top of the table.

 Taylor’s 325 runs and ten wickets during the tournament, which West Indies won, also saw the outstanding Jamaican cement her place at the top of the Reliance ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings for all-rounders, with Australia’s Lisa Sthalekar in second place.

In the batting rankings there has been plenty of movement due to the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2011 in Dhaka, Bangladesh with Sri Lanka’s 21-year-old Chamari Atapattu, who is now ranked 18th, after she scored 60 against South Africa in the third/fourth play-off at Fatullah, is now in the top 20 for the first time.

In the Reliance ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings for bowlers, the table is still topped by India captain Jhulan Goswami and there has been no change in the top 10, albeit West Indies’ Anisa Mohammed, sitting in fifth, has improved her ratings points after the 23-year-old off-spinner from T&T took seven wickets for 14 runs in the win against Pakistan in Mirpur.
