Blaise seventh in NCAA Indoor Long jump

Louisiana State University’s Kyron Blaise finished seventh in the Men’s Long Jump finals at the opening day of the 2012 NCAA Division One Indoor Track and Field Championships in Nampa, Idaho, USA on Friday evening. Blaise recorded a distance of 7.75m on his final attempt to improve his season best of 7.73m set earlier in the season.  Blaise opened with 7.36 before improving to 7.52m and then to 7.57m lie in eighth position going into the sixth and final round. The 2008 double Carifta champion then produced his best effort in the final round to take seventh spot.  The former Toco Secondary School student improved on his 12th place in 2011.

 

Meanwhile, Kai Selvon (Auburn) and Wayne Davis II (Texas A&M) booked spots in the finals of their respective events. Sevlon was fourth in the Women‘s 60m preliminaries in 7.26, topping heat three. The national junior outdoor 200m record holder was aiming at making the 200m finals as well but fell short by one place, taking ninth spot in the heats in 23.54. Davis was eighth quickest in the Men’s 60m hurdles heats, clocking 7.75 in finishing fifth in heat one.  School mate Deon Lendore failed in his bid to make the 400m finals, finishing 13th overall in 46.81. After the race Lendore said that he did not run according his race plan. “I went out too hard and did not relax.” The two day championships ended last night with Blaise in action in the Men’s Triple Jump (qualifying and finals), Sevlon in the Women’s 60m finals and Annie Alexander (Tennessee) in the Women’s Shot Put (qualifying and finals).
