Kenrick Williams, a middle and long-distance track coach, along with Shari Sampson, Avianne Tobias, and Arnold Soogrim, as part of a project in their Sport for Development class, came together to train and teach unfortunate youths from the Operation Smile Children’s Home, Poonah, Williamsville, on April 12 - 13 from 10 am to 3 pm. The idea came about thanks to Chadville Pilgrim, one of the University of T&T’s  (UTT) Corinth Campus lecturers, as he instructed the class to embark on a community project.

The two-day proceedings catered for children ranging from ages 6-18 years, who were exposed to literacy sessions where reading, writing, and mathematics were offered. They were also trained to identify one of the various sporting problems, fundamental motor skills. Throughout the two days of fun and enjoyment the children were given gift items of pens, pencils, note pads, reading materials, T-shirts and medals for total participation. Lunches, snack items and refreshments were also given. The event was funded by the Ministry of Sport. Administrators from the home asked the students to return for another project in the near future.
