Players clinched victory over Tamana United, by hitting the winning run on the last ball as matches in the California Women’s Windball tournament continued over the weekend at Macaulay Park, California. Players snatched victory after making 74 for four, replying to Tamana’s competitive score of 73 for six off 15 overs. Taking first strike, Tamana paced their innings well, with Antoinette Morang, 22, and Candice La Borde, 18, leading the way. Extras contributed a healthy 13 runs. Sherene Ramkissoon (three for 20) and Nadia Mohammed (two for 17) did the damage for Players. The Princes Town-based Players got good contributions from Sumintra Ramsawak, 22, and Monica Raju, 21, to post their first victory in the competition. Only Tamana bowler to make an impression was Morong, with two for 18.

On Saturday defending league champions, Combine Forces, edged Victors X1 by one run, to win their second straight match in the competition. Batting first, Combine Forces were bowled out for 57, with Falina Jack, 16, and Glennis Miller, 12, the best scorers. Lauren Sakawat (three for eight) and Susan Lee Tang (two for nine) made the inroads for Victors X1. Victors X1 made a gallant effort to chase the runs but ended on 56 for nine, losing the tight match by one run as their overs ended.

Earlier, newcomers Barataria Ball Players registered a comfortable 41-run victory over Cricket Lovers to notch their second win for the season. Barataria made a commanding 84 for eight off their 15 overs, with a welcomed topscore of 26 extras from the wayward Cricket Lovers bowlers. Only Roxanne O’Brien, 16, and Unica Roseman, 14, reached double figures for Barataria. Natasha Nina (three for 22) and Kandice Beera (two for 18) were the best bowlers for Cricket Lovers. Cricket Lovers were never in the hunt for victory, folding for 43 all out in the 11th over, with only allrounder Nina, with ten, making an impression. Jovanka Simon was virtually unplayable with outstanding figures of four wickets for two runs. She got good support from Kirbyna Alexander, two for nine.
