Baptiste takes Clearmont 200 in windy 22.49

National Sprint queen Kelly-Ann Baptiste fired a warning to her rivals when she sped to a fast time of 22.49 seconds in taking the women’s 200m at the NTC Classic in Clearmont, Florida, USA on Saturday. Baptiste narrowly missed out breaking her national record mark of 22.60 as the wind reading of 2.1m/s was just over the 2.0 legal limit. The 2011 World Championships 100m bronze medalist got to the line ahead of Jamaican Samantha Henry-Robinson (22.87) and American Sherisse Woods (23.49). Rondell Sorillo was joint fourth in the men’s 100m clocking 10.18, the same time of Dentarius Locke of the USA. 

 

 

Former World Youth 200m champion Jamaican Ramon McKenzie sped to victory in 10.10 ahead of USA’s Cordero Gray (10.11) and Oshane Bailey of Jamaica (10.12). Emmanuel Callendar emerged as the top sprinter on the Brazilian Athletic Tour when he sped to victory on the Rio de Janeiro leg on Sunday in a season’s best time of 10.07. Compatriot Marc Burns narrowly missed out on a podium finish taking fourth in 10.25. He was beaten to the line by two-time World Junior champion Dexter Lee of Jamaica (10.21) and Gerald Phiri of Zambia (10.22). Callender won in Belem, Uberlandia before finishing fourth in Sao Paulo behind Burns. Jehue Gordon was third in the rarely run 200m hurdles at the Great City Games in Manchester, England on Sunday. The 2010 World Junior 400m hurdles champion clocked 23.00 to finish behind Andy Turner (Great Britain) 22.54 and Felix Sanchez (Dominican Republic) 22.75. (CC)
