Four Tobagonians in tennis semis

Tobagonian Elan Mendes defeated Nabeel Mohammed in straight sets to advance to the Boys Under-18 Singles semifinal of the Lease Operators Junior Tennis Tournament at the Country Club courts, Maraval, on Sunday. Mohammed began the match playing well capitalising against Mendes, who failed to settle down winning the first game 1-0 Mendes fought back winning 2-1 and 3-2 but Mohammed fought to turn the table with a 4-3 advantage, but was no match for Mendes who came back to take a 5-4 and 6-5 eventually winning the first set 7-6. Mendes eventually curised through the second set, and served past Mohammed 6-2 in the second set to book his spot in the Semifinal round.

 

 

Abraham brothers Ty and Joshua also advanced into the semis, after victories over Ibrahim Mohammed and Gianluc Robinson respectively. Ty curised passed Mohammed 6-1, 6-1, while Joshua outplayed Robinson 6-3, 6-1. Akiel Duke got pass Che Sanchez 7-5, 6-0. In the Girls Under-14 category, Lily Stauble was dominant against Elise Ache defeating her 4-0, 4-2. Carissa Rudolfo also won her match over Samantha Melville 5-4, 4-0. In the boys Scott Hackshaw advanced into the semifinal when he defeated Teshome Nesbit 4-1, 4-2 Brendon Bruce had the better of Liu Chin serving past him 5-4, 4-1.
