Mixed results for ASNL teams vs Bajans

Teams from the All Sectors Netball League (ASNL) had mixed results in their friendly series against teams from Barbados Workers Union (BWU) on Thursday at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Tacarigua. Third place finisher in the ASNL league competition Fire defeated the visitors, 33-30 in the senior division, in the feature match of a double-header. The opening affair was saw Police go under to the BWU 40-35 in the junior division. Leading the shooting for Fire was goal-shooter Nariba Grant. She netted the bulk of the winner’s goals with 23 off 33 attempts.
 
Jellene Richardson, who replaced Lee-Ann O’Brien (0/1) as the goal-attack, added 10 off 12 tries in a match which was even at the start with the score tied at seven. Fire edged ahead at the half with a one-goal (14-13) lead. BWU still trailed at the end of the third period, 24-22 and stayed close in the final session but it was Fire holding on for the three-goal victory. For BWU, which employed four different shooters, Keisha Griffith had 11 from 22, Shakira Boxill made nine off 12, Tisha Gregoire added seven in 12 and Deborah Kellman put in three from five. In the other encounter, Kellman topped the shooting with 23 from 39 and Shakira Boxill netted 11 off 14 to inspire BWU’s five-goal win.

Police 35 (Giselle Norton-Richards 20/24, Tracy Regis 15/21) vs Barbados Workers Union 40 (Deborah Kellman 23/39, Nikita Wiltshire 6/8, Shakira Boxill 11/14). Quarter scores: 10-7, 17-16, 29-28 (Barbados).
