Starblazers, Titans book spots in Women’s T20 final
Rachael Vincent played a major role in helping Sacha’s Northern Starblazers book a spot in tomorrow’s final in the Courts Grand Slam Women’s Twenty20 (T20) Tournament.
Vincent was named Man of the Match after leading the batting to guide her team to a 34-run victory over Creation Group Central Gladiators in round two action of the inaugural competition, yesterday at the National Cricket Centre in Balmain, Couva. This after winning its opening match against KJ Sports Eastern Diamonds by eight wickets.
Put in to bat after losing the toss, Starblazers tallied 130 for 7 with Vincent, a senior national women’s cricketer, scoring a team-high 44 runs, which included three fours and a six, another senior T&T player Leeann Kirby added 28, Afy Fletcher 15 and Karishma Rambarack 10.
Leandra Ramdeen was best down at the bowling crease for the Gladiators, claiming 2/33 with Shakera Selman (1/13), Anisa Mohammed (1/20) and Kamara Ragoobar (1/25) picking up one each.
In reply, Gladiators made a brisk start with West Indies women’s débutante Felicia Walters, producing a half-century (54) which included three fours but when she was bowled by Afy Fletcher, it went downhill for her side.
Only her teammate, Shakera Selman, managed 13 before she was trapped leg before wicket (lbw) off the bowling of Fletcher, who finished 2/17. The Gladiators team fell short of its total, reaching 96/8 in 20 overs.
Tecu Southern Titans, which also won on the evening, is the other team to progress to the final with one round still to be played. Thanks to “Man of the Match” Samantha Bissoon, who was useful with both bat and ball, Titans eased to a seven-wicket victory over KJ Sports Eastern Diamond at Munroe Road recreational ground in Cunupia.
Titans, who got a six-wicket win in their opening match against Gladiators, won the toss and decided to field. Diamond never really settled at the batting crease and was bowled out for 71 in 19.4 overs. Bissoon grabbed 3-17 in that innings.
Later, she along with Shania Abdool, led the batting for the winner with the latter hitting an unbeaten 23 while Bissoon added 18.
KJ Sports Eastern Diamond 71 all out (19.4 overs) (Rosalie Dolaile 19, Hayley Matthews 17 Felina Jack 13; Shenelle Lord 3/6, Samantha Bissoon 3/17, Gaitri Seetahal 1/13) vs Titans 74 for 3 (16 overs) (Shania Abdool 23 no, S Bissoon 18; Shamilia Connell 1/12, Hayley Matthews 1/13). Titans won by seven wickets.
Sacha’s Northern Starblazers 130 for 7 (20.0 overs) (Rachel Vincent 44, Leeann Kirby 28, Afy Fletcher 15, Karishma Rambarack 10; Leandra Ramdeen 2/33, Shakera Selman 1/13, Anisa Mohammed 1/20, Kamara Ragoobar 1/25) vs Creation Group Central Gladiators 96 for 8 (20.0 overs) (Felicia Walters 54, Shakera Selman 13; A Fletcher 2/17, Chedean Nation 1/18, Rosemary Samaroo 1/19, K Rambarack 1/22). Starblazers won by 34 runs.
