As a self-described fashionista I try to keep up with the trends and know what is going on in the world of beauty, fashion, style and design. Fashion and beauty are worlds that are ever evolving, so while I may not always adopt every trend that comes by, it is still good for me to know what they are. So because of that, I became very interested last year (2011) when I noticed that the color fuchsia was popping up everywhere from clothes to cosmetics, shoes and handbags. I did a little digging and discovered that in 2011 the Pantone Color Institute (the people who code colors universally) declared the color of the year for 2011 would be “Honeysuckle” which is described by their website as “a creamy hot pink” which is “courageous and vital,” and was billed as “a brave new color for a brave new world.”
I thought that selecting a color of the year was new, but the Pantone Color Institute had been doing this (choosing a colour for each year) for a while. Further investigation revealed that the 2010 color was Turquoise and Mimosa Yellow was chosen for 2009. Jump ahead to 2012 and there has been a lot of ado recently about the 2012 Color of the year Tangerine Tango. “Sophisticated, but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”
This color is definitely taking off. All the major retailers and designers have embraced it and if you go on any design or decorating websites, you will see accents of this vibrant red-orange everywhere. Even cosmetics giant Sephora has embraced the color by producing cosmetics, brushes and a makeup bag in this fun color. So how you can you get in on the tangerine tango trend when it comes to your makeup and beauty? Simply look for the color and wear it on your eyes, lips, cheeks and on your nails or you can carry it as a fashion accessory by sporting a cute bag or shoe in this fabulous color.
