Start a Tradition: Take Mom Out to Dinner for Mother's Day

As a mom who loves to cook, I can say with authority, that I look forward to Mother’s Day with immense pleasure, simply because I don’t have to ‘turn a pot’. Having dinner out of the house is one way to show that you care and appreciate mom for being who she is. Instead of having her staying at the house and doing all of the cooking – as usual – take her out to eat. There are many good, friendly restaurants all over Trinidad and Tobago that accommodate families. But don't pass up local colourful restaurants with a flair for creative fresh food.
Everyone enjoys going out to eat once in a while, even if it’s just to catch up with each other or just to spend some time together. But taking mom out for a good meal would make her happy, especially when she is frazzled from being with the children all day and in need of some company from others. Small children can make any mother go batty (especially if they are by themselves a lot and going out once in a while is considered a ‘once in a blue moon kind of activity’). Instead of her being at home all the time as usual, why not change that to where she gets to eat whatever she wants at some nice restaurant.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, going out to eat on Mother's Day would be another good idea for when you do not spend much time together, especially if she has a job and works really (really) long hours. These days, people are so busy with work and running the household that some moms will admit that they feel like they are just ‘passing through’ when they get home from work... remind them that they need to stop every once in a while and just smell the roses (or a good pot!). In Trinidad and Tobago the possibilities for good food are endless. Surprise her. High end to grassroots, Chinese to Italian or Arabic to Creole, you can find various franchises at the local malls or in good restaurants around the Savannah, St James, Westmoorings, St. Ann’s or on D Avenue in Woodbrook.  But great restaurants can also be found in San Fernando, Princes Town, Chaguanas, Trincity and elsewhere.  Check them out. They always offer great deals for Mother's Day. And for the guys that need to show how much they appreciate the wife/girlfriend, go out and have dinner together while someone else watches the children. And even expectant moms will enjoy this special treatment. The one thing you won't get from mom is a complaint about the food; eating someone else’s good cooking is always welcome and it’s even better if she didn’t make it herself.
(And one more thing... don’t forget dessert!)
